about

Australian-born alto saxophonist Nick Hempton unleashes a big sound and takes care of "The Business" on his 2011 record. The album features a well-balanced program of Hempton's exciting compositions along with a few tasty covers thrown in for good measure. Hempton is joined on the date by his long time working rhythm section of pianist Art Hirahara, bassist Marco Panascia, and the drummer Dan Aran. This hard-hitting session really swings solidly from beginning to end, and will certainly delight straight ahead jazz fans everywhere. We feel confident that Nick Hempton's dynamic performance is sure to affect a pleasing response in ardent listeners when he gives them "The Business."

about

Nick Hempton New York, New York

Nick Hempton is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader producing new music in the modern/mainstream tradition. Influenced by the greats of the instrument like Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, Cannonball Adderley, etc, and informed by a youth misspent playing R&B and ska in his native Australia, Hempton's jazz is original, approachable, and always swinging. He's called New York City home since 2004. ... more
